Quick Bites: Ramsay’s Kitchen, Lumin Café, Gospel Brunch and more Vegas food news

Celebrity chef and TV and restaurant mogul Gordon Ramsay will open his sixth restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip this fall when Ramsay’s Kitchen arrives at Harrah’s Las Vegas in the former Oyster Bar space. The concept first opened in Boston featuring a menu including a raw bar, soups, salads, sandwiches and other casually refined dishes. The 240-seat restaurant will include a seafood counter and private booths and dining rooms.

Illuminarium, an immersive cinematic entertainment experience set to open at Area15 on April 15, has partnered with Elizabeth Blau and Kim Canteenwalla to create Lumin Café & Kitchen, a new culinary experience opening along with it. Designed by the Rockwell Group, Lumin will offer an indoor and outdoor space with garden-inspired elements serving breakfast, small and large plates for all-day dining, a kids’ menu and grab-and-go options. It will be open daily from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m., with a late-night menu available on the patio beginning at 8 p.m.

As we first reported here weeks ago, Michael Symon’s Mabel’s BBQ will be one of the Palms restaurants returning to action when the off-Strip casino resort reopens this spring for the first time in two years. The Palms confirmed it this week with general manager Cynthia Kiser Murphey saying: “We are thrilled Chef Symon and Mabel’s BBQ will be returning to Palms. I’ve been very fortunate to travel to Chef Symon’s hometown to taste his delicious food and enjoy the one-of-a-kind vibe he’s created in Cleveland.” The restaurant will host a hiring event this week for various positions.

The James Beard Foundation has announced this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award will honor Martin Yan, chef and star of public television’s long-running “Yan Can Cook,” who is planning to open his first Las Vegas restaurant M.Y. Asia this fall at Bally’s. The foundation also announced restaurant and chef award nominees from the semifinalists and The Black Sheep chef and partner Jamie Tran is the city’s lone finalist in the Best Chef: Southwest category. The 2022 James Beard Awards ceremony will be held in Chicago June 11-13.

Vanderpump à Paris at Paris Las Vegas is now open, the second Las Vegas Strip establishment from Southern California restaurateurs and reality TV stars Lisa Vanderpump and Ken Todd. Designed by Vanderpump and Nick Alain and located just off the Paris lobby bar, the new space features 200 seats with plush velvet art nouveau banquettes, ornate light fixtures and bespoke furniture, as well as a long white marble bar embedded with crystal chandeliers. The wine list nods to France and the food menu includes light bites and more substantial plates ranging from ratatouille frites, a trio of tartares, French onion mac and cheese and more. Vanderpump à Paris is open daily from 4 p.m. until midnight.

PT’s Taverns has opened its newest PT’s Gold bar and restaurant at 7770 W. Ann Road, the company’s 63rd tavern in the Valley. The award-winning happy hour specials are available from 5 to 7 p.m. and midnight to 2 a.m. daily, and signature bites include the Pub Club, crispy fish sandwich, Gold Fever chicken wrap, Gilroy pizza and more.

A second local Slater’s 50/50 burger joint is set to open this week, on March 23 at 7511 W. Lake Mead Boulevard. The first 50 people who attend the opening starting at 11 a.m. will receive a special buy one, get one offer for the Original 50/50 burger made of ground beef and ground bacon. The restaurant will be open daily from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Valley Cheese & Wine owner Diana Brier will host a pairing experience at 2 p.m. March 27 featuring five 4-ounce pours of craft brews and a five-cheese tasting plate. Tickets are $42 and are available at secretburger.com.

Ada’s Wine Bar is teaming with Duckhorn Vineyards for a five-course wine dinner on April 14 with seatings at 4 and 8 p.m. Chef de cuisine Jackson Stamper has created a menu of dishes to pair with the Napa Valley winery’s offerings including spring pea panna cotta, hazelnut French toast with foie gras and crispy ocean trout with tempura maitake mushrooms. Tickets are $150 and can be purchased at adaslv.com.

The Gospel Brunch is back at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay on April 17. An all-you-can-eat smorgasbord of Southern cooking will be once again paired with a jubilant performance by Patti Pennington and the House of Blues Gospel Choir with seatings at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on its comeback Sunday. Future events will start at 10 a.m. on select Sundays including May 15, June 19, July 3, August 7 and September 11. Tickets are available at houseofblues.com.

Ferraro’s has unveiled new spring dishes featuring seasonal flavors and ingredients from executive chef Mimmo Ferraro. Among them are bufala mozzarella with pistachio pesto and spring peas, colorata salad, risotto with asparagus and Stracciatella cheese, gnocchi with pistachio pesto and mortadella, Scottish salmon with lemon herb risotto, and black Alaskan cod with prosecco black truffle sauce.

Green Valley Ranch Resort has debuted its seasonal outdoor pop-up lounge, Spring at the Terrace at the resort’s Backyard pool space. The botanical garden environment is open every Friday and Saturday from 3 p.m. until midnight, serving signature cocktails and rosé flights along with springtime snacks. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are recommended, and guests can also reserve a private mini-greenhouse to further the experience.

Wynn Las Vegas is rolling out a new slate of Master Class offerings for spring, including the Dumpling Master Class with dim sum chef Sandy Shi at Wing Lei, Cake Decorating with a Master with cake designer Flora Aghababyan, and Mastering Sushi with Mizumi executive chef Min Kim.
