Hot Spots: Jenna Marbles at GBDC, Wednesdays Downtown returns and more

Jenna Marbles hosts this season’s launch of GBDC Saturday afternoon at the Palms.

Steve Powers at Light From Lavo in New York City to Mandalay Bay’s danceteria, Powers is playing the hottest clubs across the nation. Feel the buzz surrounding the NYC-based beatmeister when he takes to Light’s DJ booth Friday night. October 17, doors at 10 p.m., $52+ men, $27+ women.

Adult Halloween Bash at Sheri’s Ranch A Halloween party at a brothel—how could this possibly disappoint? Especially with a costume contest for women who have the organizers’ blessing to dress up—or down—however they please? DJ Kass, free nosh and drink specials round out this no-brainer haunted happening for real grown-ups. October 18, 8 p.m., $10.

GBDC at Ghostbar The weekly off-season daylife bash returns to the top of the Palms Saturday afternoon with all of its signature elements—brown-bagged forties, bedazzled beer bongs and the requisite party piñata—in tow. YouTube queen Jenna Marbles hosts the fourth season kickoff, which features an open Champagne bar from 1-2 p.m. Break out that bubbly, and save us a shot on the shot-ski! October 18, 1 p.m., $10, local ladies free.

Brunch at Lavo This town isn’t too small for more than one off-season afternoon bash bursting with bubbly, and Lavo’s “epic” party brunch returns this weekend, as well. While its competitor is more of a liquid meal, the Palazzo clubstaurant’s daylife option complements the booze with Italian-inspired brunchy bites. In the booth: DJ Lema. October 18, 2-6 p.m., reservations required.

Tacos and Whiskey at Double Helix The Town Square whiskey and wine lounge is capitalizing on the open-air mall’s weekend foot traffic with a lucrative promo every third Saturday, featuring $2 tacos and half-priced Whiskey of the Month pours (October’s selection: Rittenhouse) to fuel shoppers’ retail therapy. October 18, noon-5 p.m.

XIV Sessions: The Resurrection at Hyde Hyde’s delirious XIV Sessions solves the monumental dilemma of our time: How can we partake in Sunday escapism, debauchery and drunken excess and still get to bed early enough for the Monday workday? Answer: Start the party around sunset. XIV’s 2014-’15 season begins this week and, per the “resurrection” theme, you’re encouraged to dust off a former XIV outfit. October 19, 6 p.m., $50+ men, $40+ women.

Slander at XS Imagine trap music with the swells, melodies and builds of trance. That’s the specialty of LA producer/DJ duo Slander (Derek Andersen and Scott Land), which calls its particular aesthetic “heaven trap.” Andersen explains to YourEDM that “it’s a synonym for euphoria. We want to make people cry at the end of a trap show.” It used to be that a trap set could bring on the booty. Now it can bring on the feels. October 19, doors at 10:30 p.m., $30+ men, $20+ women.

Wednesdays Downtown at Fremont East Entertainment District The midweek barhop has returned for the month of October, complete with food trucks, painting classes, a silent disco (where everyone grooves to what’s coming out of their headphones), a bartending competition, a happy hour—and barricades that allow pedestrians to take over Fremont Street between Las Vegas Boulevard and Seventh Street. Sounds like First Friday minus the “riffraff” (and the traffic). October 22, 6 p.m.-midnight.
