On August 17, a deep-pocketed VIP at XS decided he would buy 500 cases of beer (allegedly costing over $80,000 according to multiple online accounts; a rep for the club couldn’t confirm the purchase amount) during the Encore megaclub’s Night Swim bash. But rather than deliver the brews based on consumption, XS brought out enough to build a wall, creating a poolside beer fort. A throwback to boyhood playtime or a metaphor for living in Las Vegas—or just a venue’s and table patron’s way of showing off? You decide, but I’m betting a lot of closet bottle rats came out of the woodwork that night.

Life at SLS—opening this weekend—has announced more scheduled DJ performances, including the addition of dance music tastemaker and BBC Radio 1 staple Pete Tong to Deep Dish’s gig (August 31), and Borgore, EDX, Chris Lake and Fatboy Slim for headlining sets in September.

Drai’s Enterprises and Arty will go 24 hours on August 30, with the DJ starting with a Beach Club set, followed by his headlining spin at Drai’s Nightclub later that night and ending the venue hat-trick with an afterhours gig.

Tao Group is launching a campaign to help needy students. On August 21, clubbers can place new school supplies into a box outside of Tao’s entrance and get free access to the club’s open bar from 10:30-11:30 p.m. Marquee patrons can do the same on August 25 at the front of the guest-list line, with the open bar happening from 10-11 p.m.
