As Eater.com reported today, a routine Southern Nevada Health District inspection on March 31 at the Henderson outpost of Firefly Tapas Kitchen & Bar on Eastern Avenue yielded 38 demerits and a C grade. Violations included employee handwashing, food temperature issues and an inadequate number of handwashing facilities.

The news prompted a petition on Change.org to close all three Firefly locations (which had received 50 signatures at last check), as well as a social media backlash.

However, the Health District confirmed to the Weekly today that it reinspected the restaurant on April 4, resulting in 8 demerits and an A grade. That report has not yet been posted to the SNHD website, but the restaurant was given A grades in previous routine inspections in 2013.

The original Firefly location was closed last year following a salmonella outbreak that sickened 294 people. The restaurant reopened nearby at a new location on Paradise Road in late May 2013, and has received A grades in subsequent inspections. The Sahara location also received an A during its most recent Health District inspection on January 21, 2014.

And the space that hosted the original Firefly for years? It’s been dark since the salmonella incident, but owners John and Tabitha Simmons are preparing to open new restaurant Tacos & Beer in that space this week.
