Upon hearing that a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police helicopter went down in a neighborhood near Bonanza Road, I got as close to the scene as possible. There was already a huge police presence and caution tape around the inner cordon, but after scouting a bit I skirted along a side street without crossing the line. I got permission from homeowners as I went and ended up a block away, knowing I needed to work quickly. After only a dozen or so frames I was approached by officers and asked to move back. I have chased spot news for years, and there’s always some excitement in trying to capture the critical moments.
